Montgomery City is a city in Montgomery County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,834 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montgomery County.
Geography
Montgomery City is located at 38°58′37″N 91°30′18″W (38.976812, -91.505026). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.20 square miles (8.29 km²), of which, 3.17 square miles (8.21 km²) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km²) is water.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 2,834 people, 1,141 households, and 711 families residing in the city. The population density was 894.0 inhabitants per square mile (345.2/km²). There were 1,279 housing units at an average density of 403.5 per square mile (155.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 92.6% White, 3.6% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 1.9% from other races, and 1.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.6% of the population.
There were 1,141 households of which 33.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.8% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.7% had a male householder with no wife present, and 37.7% were non-families. 32.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.97.
The median age in the city was 35.3 years. 26.6% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 26.4% were from 25 to 44; 24.7% were from 45 to 64; and 14.3% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.7% male and 51.3% female.
